Athar

The Athar, known to some as the “Defiers,” are a fervent and vocal sect that teaches the rejection of all gods as false, self-proclaimed divinities. They claim that the gods are no more than powerful beings who have cunningly bound mortals to their will through worship and devotion, stealing the very essence of divinity from those who would seek to know the true beyond. Their followers preach a radical doctrine: the gods are not the true masters of the multiverse, and the only path to enlightenment is to unbind the soul from their false dominion.

To this end, the Athar travel across planes, seeking to expose the charades of the gods and spread their pure revelation to all. They are evangelists of a harsh truth, challenging all to question the legitimacy of the divine. Their rhetoric is unyielding, often filled with fire and vehemence as they disrupt temples, break sacred icons, and confront priests with the sigil-cant of their creed: “The gods are nothing. Seek the True beyond.” Their ranks are filled with those who see themselves as liberators — free from divine control, they fight to spread the word that the gods are not gods and that mortals must look elsewhere for their power and truth. Many view them as zealots, but for the Athar, there is no greater cause than the liberation of all from divine chains.
