Recap - 2026-02-26
When we last left our intrepid heroes, they had agreed to kill off a large worm in the city’s bowels, in exchange for their own plane. Specifically, Josiah, Chibro, and Tag had agreed. Gobbie and Kor had abstained, Angelus signed with a fake name, making his signature null and void, and Grebo was forbidden to sign by Chibro.
Once the agreement was underway, Quintus took the group to a large sphincter, opening it and allowing them in. He closed it behind them and wished them luck. The imp, still determined to document, followed, turning invisible as he did.
The group made their way up the internals of the city, and finally crossed into the bowels proper. They were infested with yugoloth corpses infested by worms, animated and ready to attack.
- Chibro spent most of the battle blowing away the worm-riddled corpses and tanking an impressive amount of damage.
- Kor shrugged off hit after hard hit like it was a light tap, and dealt extensive damage.
- Dreri, either professing her eternal love for Angelus (if you believe his interpretation) or barking orders (if you believe reality), took down several enemies with her powerful flurry of blows.
- Josiah kept a good distance, taking advantage of the Sphere of Fire Immunity taken from Tabi posthumously to cast fireballs on the enemy while taking no damage himself.
- Tag and Cath play battlefield control, sniping at the enemy and mauling them to pieces.
- Gobbie heals where he can, and smites the worm-creatures with Tyr’s mighty justice.
- Angelus follows his “beloved’s” lead and attacks with abandon.
- Grebo does his best to help, but misses most hits. He is incredibly proud when he hits one enemy with a small amount of damage, only to be put into saving throws later.
After taking out the worm-riddled corpses in this one chamber, they follow a small intestinal tube into another, more diseased organ, where they find more of the worms and a mage dressed in red robes, bearing a large staff, and with a porcelain mask barely hiding the writhing worms behind it.
She barks something at the group, but they don’t understand, and attack. They do significant damage to her, but she takes it, then summons the enormous worm they were being paid to fight and kill. It was so large it filled a quarter of the organ, and the battle was quickly pitched against them. Angelus was swallowed by the creature, but between him on the inside and Dreri on the outside, managed to get it to spew him out. Grebo took a hard hit, and went down, barely managing to stabilize after Gobbie chose to heal the rest of the party over him.
The worm grapples Dreri, clearly ready to eat her, and Angelus, desperate to save “his girl”, calls upon all the powers of his oath and drives an incredibly powerful divine smite into the giant worm. However, the worm, in taking the damage, cracks its outer shell, releasing the same radiant damage out onto all around it. Half the party falls, including Angelus, who was swallowed by the worm. The party manages to finish off the worm, finally, and revives everyone. They return to Quintus, telling him of their success. He enters, confirms their victory, and burns the bodies of the yugoloths. When he comes to a figure clad in golden armor, he takes the time to remove the armor, then immolates the body. He confirms, when Chibro asks, that it was the body and armor of the General of Gehenna.
He then thanks them and begins to walk away. Chibro inquires as to their payment, and Quintus tells them to seek out a man at the Smoldering Corpse bar on their return to Sigil, and he will give them their reward. He also tells them they have another day to “enjoy” the Crawling City before they arrive at Nimicry, but to not overstay their welcome at their hotel here. Timandra’s good will is only enforced until their contract ends, which it does upon delivery to Nimicry. Exhausted, battered, and bruised, the group returned to their lodging and took a long rest, feeling that this last fight was the pinnacle of their experiences out here on the planes. Tomorrow, they decided, they would search for the Pyxis of Pandemonium and then prepare to leave this city, and in turn, this horrible plane.
