Recap - 2025-07-31

  • The party (Chibro, Josiah, Angelus, Gobbie, Tag) walks through a barren desert toward Hopeless.
  • They notice there’s no sun, moon, or stars — only ambient light and a dark horizon line.
  • They realize there’s no twilight — it instantly shifts from day to night.
  • Chibro uses his sense of smell and survival to confirm they are moving forward, not trapped in place.
  • Gobbie reaches out to their deity and feels a wave of despair and hopelessness, but resists it.
  • Time passes strangely — they’ve walked for hours but seem no closer to Hopeless.
  • The meridian line (separating light from dark) crosses them again; night falls instantly.
  • A ruined serpent temple suddenly appears in the desert, where previously there was only silt.
  • Two sweet-smelling pools appear: “Suffering” and “Rebirth.”
  • Two bronze snake statues are labeled “Surrender of the Mind” and “Surrender of the Body.”
  • Chibro spots a partially collapsed pit that leads underneath the temple structure.
  • Inside, the party sees three humanoids — Pasinia (halfling), Caloles (firbolg), and Delobel (human).
  • Voices from within argue in Draconic — Pasinia says the temple must be destroyed.
  • Caloles tells the party this temple traps petitioners on their way to Hopeless.
  • He warns that the temple is dedicated to Ssharaz, a serpent goddess of surrender and oblivion.
  • Josiah identifies the three as Sensates from the Society of Sensation.
  • Tag vaguely recalls Ssharaz as a minor Yuan-Ti goddess of dreams and rebirth.
  • The temple interior is overgrown with vines and flowers, full of incense and cots.
  • Thre Yuan-Ti (Atzas, Szeltsi, and Nehshi) are present near an altar, performing ritual acts.
  • The Sensates and Yuan-Ti argue:
  • Sensates see the temple as a threat to authentic experience.
  • Yuan-Ti offer release from pain and suffering through surrender.
  • Pasinia realizes they may have been there for days and have lost track of time.
  • One of the Yuan-Ti smirks knowingly when she says this.
  • The party is tempted by the fragrant pools; Gobbie and Angelus resist magical allure.
  • Gobbie stops Pasinia from walking to a cot with a Command spell.
  • Nehshi accuses the party of controlling her mind.
  • Tag’s panther Cath tries to attack Nehshi but misses.
  • Nehshi throws Pasinia onto a cot and begins wrapping her in vines.
  • Combat begins.
  • Tag strikes one of the Yuan-Ti; a massive serpent statue animates in response.
  • The statue glows green and becomes hostile — an eidolon possesses it.
  • The statue hurls the stone head of a Yuan-ti statue at Tag, dealing massive damage.
  • Hypnotic Pattern is cast by Delobel; Angelus and Chibro are incapacitated.
  • Gobbie uses Spiritual Weapon and an axe to cut Pasinia free.
  • Szeltsi tries to rewrap and choke Pasinia with vines.
  • A mass Suggestion spell is cast by Pasinia — a couple of party members feel compelled to destroy the snake.
  • The eidolon snake is heavily damaged by Angelus, Josiah, and Tag.
  • The statue is destroyed; the eidolon emerges as a ghostly spectral serpent.
  • The eidolon frightens everyone who sees it (except Josiah and Gobbie).
  • The eidolon disappears into the floor.
  • Delobel, no longer magically charmed, shouts dramatically at everyone.
  • One Yuan-Ti (Szeltsi) is polymorphed into a bunny by Caloles.
  • Nehshi casts Sleep — Chibro succumbs and falls unconscious.
  • Gobbie and Delobel flight over Pasinia’s hand as she tries to regain awareness.
  • The group splits attention between protecting Pasinia and chasing the eidolon.
  • The eidolon reappears as a ghostly presence, causing another fear wave.
  • Delobel, still performing theatrically, becomes more erratic.
  • Josiah blasts Nehshi with a spell, knocking him out.
  • Caloles rescues Pasinia and hands the bunny-Szeltsi to Gobbie.
  • The eidolon inhabits another statue and attacks the group, but they dispatch it easily.
  • The temple collapses, and the group digs themselves out, ready to head to Hopeless.
