Recap - 2026-01-15
The party took a short rest within the Sweat and Soot that they had cleared out in the battle with Pythagius Sandoris Witterstein Eragon Cybasix the Third. There were a few creatures still loitering around, and the bartender stayed, but the rest of the fiends cleared out. Josiah gave Angelus the cup of Nectar that Kor did not take, allowing him to regain his full vitality.
The group discussed how to do what Naghig had asked, as it seemed to involve no little amount of peril. They finally decided that Angelus would talk to the Ultraloth and see if he would offer them payment for killing Naghig.
Angelus approached the Ultraloth, greeting him with his typical charm, but forgot what he was going to ask. The Ultraloth, introducing himself as Cwentus, spoke directly into Angelus’ mind and seemed bemused by Angelus’ antics. After some stilted conversation, a deal was struck: Cwentus would give the party the Orthon’s Pursuer if they killed Naghig and gave over her head.
The party set their plan in motion. Josiah ran inside the Molten Curtain, picked up a large metal bowl filled with burning alcohol (using it as a stand-in for the Brazier of WildFire that is Naghig’s main source of protection) and ran out the door.
Naghig, bellowing with rage, followed right behind, and attempted to smash him into the ground.
- Chibro, having climbed up on top of a nearby building, took a few shots at her.
- Kor attacked the fire giant with his maul, keeping her attention while climbing onto the roof of the Molten Curtain.
- The Fire Newt Brothers ran out to help their boss (Naghig) and started attacking the group.
- Josiah cast Rime’s Binding Ice on the group freezing many of the newts and Naghig in place.
- Naghig, either letting her pent up rage at her former master out in this battle or just really playing the part well, smashed Josiah into a pulp with her hammer.
- Tag, using his command of the myriad creatures under his command, rose up into the air on the back of his Nightmare, taking bow shots at Naghig and commanding Cath to help his teammates and attack the firenewts.
- Angelus, at first, didn’t realize they were actually fight, so cast “Blowing Wind” by blowing on Naghig. Then, he saw Naghig SQUISH Josiah, and actually began to attack. He slashed at Naghig with his Acheron Blade.
- Kor climbed up to the roof, head to head with Naghig, and continued to attack her from behind.
- Cwentus stepped forward, grinning with his terrible golden eyes, and cast a spell on Naghig, whispering, “Naghig, come, return to us. Return to your place in the Blood War. The torture will not last forever, but it will be oh…so…sweet.”
- Naghig became immobilized and stunned.
- With her stunned, the party was able to take her down quickly.
- The Fire Newt Brothers, seeing their master killed, went inside the tavern.
- Chibro cut off Naghig’s head and gave it to Angelus to deliver.
- Angelus gave it to the Ultraloth while using it as a puppet.
- The ultraloth reported back the successful mission to its’ superiors, then attempted to kill the party, after first trying to Mass Suggestion them into a 24 hour chorus line.
- Chibro and Angelus failed, causing them both to lay flat on their stomachs and sing the songs of their people. Angelus canonically sang a haunting rendition of “All Star.” Chibro, a fabled tune from his childhood, which is non-canonically the song “Africa” by Toto.
- The battle was pitched, with the Ultraloth summoning a Nycaloth, attacking the party, and putting Josiah in a Wall of Fire and into saving throws, the Nycaloth putting Tag and Gobbie both into saving throws at separate times, and the group managing to barely eke out a win.
- Vurus resurrected Naghig, who thanked the group for their help, reveling in the smoky but free air she could now enjoy without fear of her captors.
- She traded out the gold, giving some on top from her coffers as a thank you, plus a Ring of Fire Protection. Your total GP earnings from this are 556 PP (the 320 from the coffers, minus the four that you gave Dalgumok, plus an additional 200 PP from Naghig - she tells you a benefactor of hers is gifting it, but won’t say who), giving you 5560 GPs to split between the party.
- Badly wounded, the group began to discuss if they are going to try to rest on the River in Dreri’s boat, or if they want to take the risk of resting in the Sweat and Soot.
Treasure
